Why chips happen here.
North Highlands sits next to McClellan Park, the former Air Force base that is now a large business and industrial park. Semi trucks, delivery vans and equipment haulers move through the area every day on Watt Ave, Dudley Blvd, Elkhorn Blvd and Antelope Rd. Heavy vehicles shed gravel and road grit, and loose material from industrial lots tends to drift onto nearby lanes.
I-80 runs along the south side of the community and carries steady truck traffic toward Roseville and the Sierra. Many residents also use Business 80 and Watt Ave to get into Sacramento, so freeway debris is a regular hazard.
Weather adds to the strain. Summer highs regularly pass 100°F, and cars parked on open lots get very hot before the A/C kicks on. Winter brings Tule fog and long stretches of wiper use. Both make it more likely that a small chip will turn into a crack.
Repair or replace?
As a rule of thumb, chips smaller than a quarter and cracks shorter than about six inches can often be repaired. Damage right in the driver's view, at the edge of the glass, or with multiple cracks spreading usually means windshield replacement. Our post windshield repair vs. replacement explains how we decide.

This place and the owner Faiz are fantastic. I called this morning and he was able to get me in same day, and most importantly, he did an outstanding job at a great rate.
