Auto glass repair in Sacramento
A rock chip on the windshield is one of the most common things that happens to a car in the Sacramento area. Trucks and construction on I-80, US-50 and Hwy 99 throw gravel, and the valley's temperature swings, from cool mornings to triple-digit afternoons, put stress on any damage. A chip that looks harmless in the morning can become a crack by evening.
King Auto Tint has been working on cars in Sacramento since 2020, and in addition to window tint and protection film, we offer auto glass repair: windshield chip and crack repair and windshield replacement, at our shop at 2450 Fulton Ave.
Our auto glass services
- Windshield repair: resin repair for chips and some short cracks. The faster you get it done, the better the result tends to be.
- Windshield replacement: a new windshield when the damage is too large, spreading or in the driver's line of sight.
- Side and rear glass: call us to ask about your vehicle.
When repair is enough, and when replacement is needed
Every case is different, but these general guidelines help:
Repair is usually possible when:
- The chip is small (roughly the size of a coin or smaller).
- A crack is short and hasn't started spreading.
- The damage isn't at the edge of the windshield.
- The damage isn't directly in the driver's line of sight.
Replacement is usually needed when:
- A crack is long or keeps growing.
- Damage reaches the edge of the glass, which weakens the windshield.
- The damage is right in front of the driver, where even a good repair can leave distortion.
- There are several chips or cracks, or the inner layer of glass is damaged.
- Damage interferes with windshield-mounted cameras or sensors.

How to choose: what to do right now
Get chips looked at quickly. Dirt and moisture get into an open chip over time and make repair less effective. Our guide on what to do after a windshield chip has simple steps, like covering the chip with clear tape and avoiding blasting the A/C or defroster directly on the glass.
Check your insurance. Many policies cover glass, and some cover chip repair with little or no out-of-pocket cost. Coverage varies, so call us and we'll talk through your options. See does insurance cover auto glass repair.
Don't wait on a spreading crack. A crack that's growing can block your view and may affect the windshield's role in protecting you. Read can you drive with a cracked windshield.
Newer vehicles and ADAS
Many vehicles now have a camera mounted behind the windshield for lane-keeping, automatic emergency braking and similar features, known as ADAS. After a windshield replacement, some of these systems need to be recalibrated so they read the road correctly. If your vehicle needs calibration after a replacement, we'll tell you before work begins and explain how it will be handled. Learn more in ADAS calibration after windshield replacement.
Protect the glass afterward
Once your windshield is fixed, windshield protection film adds a clear layer that helps reduce future chips and pitting. And if the cabin gets hot, ceramic window tint is the upgrade most Sacramento drivers feel right away.
