Mercedes-Benz G-Class Window Tint in Sacramento
For a G-Class, VortexIR ceramic film is the best choice, because its upright, flat glass faces the sun more directly than most SUVs. Keep the front doors light for California and go as dark as you like on the rear and swing door.
The G-Class, often called the G-Wagon, is one of the most recognizable vehicles we work on, and we've tinted G-Class SUVs, including AMG models, at our Fulton Ave studio. Its upright, nearly flat glass is part of the look, and it also means the sun hits the side windows more directly than on a sloped modern SUV.
Flat glass is straightforward to film, but the G-Class has a few unique details. The rear door is side-hinged and carries the spare wheel, and its window is smaller than a typical liftgate glass. The rear quarter windows are large and upright, and owners usually want privacy for the cargo area. The windshield is also comparatively upright. With an electric version now available alongside gas models, we check the exact vehicle before recommending a film so the result suits how you use it.
Recommended film for the G-Class
Because the G-Class glass meets the sun so directly, ceramic is worth it. VortexIR is the top film we install, rated by Solar Gard at up to 88% infrared rejection with a deep black look, and it is non-metallic and signal-friendly. California rules still apply: the front doors at 70% combined light transmission, a non-reflective strip on the top 4 inches of the windshield, and any darkness on the rear doors, quarters and swing door. See our ceramic window tint page. Many G-Class owners also protect the paint with paint protection film, including matte or satin finishes.

Windshield & auto glass
G-Class glass care.
Newer G-Class windshields carry camera-based driver assistance and rain and light sensors, and the upright windshield can take a direct hit from freeway debris. Small chips can often be repaired. For a windshield replacement, we'll confirm the correct glass, and if calibration is needed, we'll tell you before work begins and explain how it will be handled.
FAQ
Mercedes-Benz G-Class questions.
Is the G-Class easier or harder to tint than other SUVs?
The flat glass is easier to shape, but the swing-door window and the need for a perfect, uniform look on such a visible vehicle take time and care.
Can I get matte paint protection film on my G-Class?
Yes, Solar Gard Clearshield Pro PPF is available in matte and satin finishes. We'll quote it alongside your tint.
Is window tint different on the electric G-Class?
The approach is similar, but we'll confirm the glass and electronics on your vehicle and use a signal-friendly ceramic film.
