Subaru Forester Window Tint in Sacramento

For most Forester owners, a Solar Gard ceramic film such as VortexIR on the rear glass with a light, legal film up front is the best balance of heat control and visibility. The Forester's tall, upright windows let in a lot of sun, so heat rejection matters more than extra darkness.

We've tinted Foresters at our studio

The Forester is one of the most practical small SUVs on Sacramento roads, and we've tinted Foresters at our Fulton Ave studio. Owners use them for school runs in Carmichael, ski trips up I-80 and a dog in the cargo area.

Its defining trait is visibility. Subaru designs the Forester with a tall greenhouse and thin pillars so you can see out easily, which also means a lot of glass facing the sun. On a July afternoon parked at a trailhead or a Roseville shopping center, that glass turns the cabin into an oven. Most Forester owners who come to us want the cabin cooler and the rear seats shaded without losing that open, airy view that made them buy the car in the first place.

Recommended film for the Forester

Because the Forester's appeal is its visibility, we usually suggest putting the performance into the film rather than the shade. Solar Gard rates VortexIR at up to 88% infrared heat rejection, so it can make a real difference in a glass-heavy SUV without going very dark. On the rear doors and liftgate, any darkness is allowed in California when the car has dual outside mirrors, so many owners pair a ceramic film with the existing privacy glass. The front side windows must let in at least 70% of light combined, and the windshield can take a non-reflective strip on the top 4 inches. NR Galaxie, a non-reflective, signal-friendly film, suits tighter budgets. Compare options on our ceramic window tint page; we'll recommend the exact film and shade on your quote.

Windshield & auto glass

Forester glass care.

On many recent Foresters, the windshield carries the stereo cameras for EyeSight, Subaru's driver-assist system. A replacement needs the correct part, installed cleanly and squarely. If your vehicle needs calibration after a replacement, we'll tell you before work begins and explain how it will be handled. Often the better outcome is avoiding replacement altogether: a small chip from gravel on US-50 or I-80 can usually be filled through windshield repair before Sacramento's temperature swings spread it into a crack.

FAQ

Subaru Forester questions.

Will tint on my Forester affect EyeSight?

Side and rear window tint does not touch the area EyeSight looks through. The cameras sit at the top center of the windshield, so any windshield sun strip has to stay clear of that camera area. We'll show you where the strip can go.

My Forester already has dark rear windows. Do I still need tint there?

Factory privacy glass is tinted glass, not a heat-rejecting film, so it darkens the view but still lets plenty of infrared heat through. Adding a ceramic film over it is how many owners cool down the back seat and cargo area.

What's the darkest legal tint for a Forester's front windows in California?

California requires front side windows to let in at least 70% of light, glass and film combined, so only very light films qualify. This is general information, not legal advice; we'll explain what's compliant when you come in.
