Tesla Model Y Window Tint in Sacramento

For most Sacramento Model Y owners, a Solar Gard ceramic film such as VortexIR on the side and rear glass is the best fit, with front doors kept within California's 70% rule. If overhead heat bothers you, ask us about your glass roof as a separate step.

We've tinted Model Ys at our studio

The Model Y is the Tesla we see most often, and we've tinted Model Ys at our Fulton Ave studio many times. It is a family car for a lot of owners, which changes the conversation: the people who feel the heat first are usually kids in the back seat, sitting under the glass roof next to the large rear side windows.

The Model Y also has a tall liftgate glass that catches low afternoon sun on westbound drives home. Owners commuting on Business 80 or US-50 tend to want a rear section that is noticeably darker and cooler, while keeping the front doors light enough to stay legal. Because the Model Y uses its cameras for driver-assist features and relies on a phone key, film choice matters more than it does on an older car: we steer owners toward non-metallic films that stay signal-friendly.

Recommended film for the Model Y

For the Model Y we usually recommend Solar Gard VortexIR, a nano-ceramic Solar Gard rates at up to 88% infrared heat rejection. It is non-metallic, so it will not interfere with the phone key or connectivity. On California-legal shading: the front side windows must let in at least 70% of light combined, so only very light films qualify there; the rear side windows and liftgate can be any darkness because the car has dual outside mirrors; and the windshield can take a non-reflective strip on the top 4 inches. Ask us about your glass roof, since that is a separate decision. See ceramic window tint for details, and we'll recommend the exact film and shade on your quote.

Windshield & auto glass

Model Y glass care.

The Model Y windshield houses the forward camera cluster, and on cars equipped with a wiper de-icing feature there may be heating elements near the wiper area, so a replacement windshield needs to match your car's exact configuration. Small chips are often repairable if handled early; see windshield repair. If replacement is needed, read windshield replacement: if your vehicle needs calibration after a replacement, we'll tell you before work begins and explain how it will be handled. For Tesla-specific details, see our Tesla auto glass guide and Model 3 and Model Y tint guide.

FAQ

Tesla Model Y questions.

Should I tint the glass roof on my Model Y?

It is optional. The roof already has a factory coating, but back-seat passengers often still feel the sun overhead. Ask us about your glass roof and we will explain what is possible on your car.

How dark can the rear windows on a Model Y be in California?

The rear side windows and liftgate glass can be any darkness as long as the car has dual outside mirrors, which the Model Y does. The front side windows are the ones limited to 70% light transmission combined.

Will ceramic tint affect my Model Y phone key?

Non-metallic films such as VortexIR ceramic and NR Galaxie are designed to be signal-friendly, which is why we recommend them for Teslas that rely on phone keys and connectivity.
